COMPETITION RULES & REGULATIONS:

Entering the Competition UNSUNG HEROES, VOL II: The 2nd Annual

Click the button that states Enter Competition at the top of this page or the main Unsung Heroes, Vol II and fill out the submission form.  You'll receive an automated email once completed with your unique ID number.  You'll need this number moving forward.  Once you enter, The Music Room will be calling you to coordinate.  Contestants need to attach a video and bio (for promo) in the submission form whether it's a home-made cell phone video showcasing your vocals, a professionally produced video or anything in between.

To enter this competition, one video submission per applicant is required to qualify.  To enter and compete for the $20,000 1st Place Prize, $5000 Runner-Up Prize (and other prizes listed), there is a $50 non-refundable fee.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:

  • Q.  What are we looking for in the video that you submit?  A.  An example of your best vocals as showcased in a video containing one song (of your choice) or just enough of a song for us to make a determination of qualification.  Again, the video does not have to be professionally produced as long as the quality is good enough to be viewed (i.e. phone quality or better).  Although there are no restrictions on the length of your song, you may only submit one song to be viewed.

  • Q.  Does it matter what genre and/or style of music I choose to sing in my video?  A.  No. It's your choice.  The genre and/or style of music you choose will not matter in the video.  You should only be concerned about whether the song best showcases your vocal abilities.

  • Q.  I'm a singer but also play an instrument.  Can I play my instrument in this competition?  A.  Yes, we encourage those who play an instrument.  Further, contestants are allowed two accompanists to compliment their performance throughout the entire competition should they choose to do so.  Accompanists can play any instrument of their choice.  Keep in mind, you will always be judged as an individual only, and not as a group.

  • Q.  Is this competition gender-specific?  A.  No, all may apply.

  • Q.  Is this competition open to anyone living in the United States?  A.  Yes.  Make sure you understand that you need to preform on Cape Cod in Massachusetts.

  • Q.  If I can't make a particular date due to a scheduling conflict can I perform via Zoom on The Music Room's  theater screen?  A. Yes, contestants can choose to Zoom their performances (approved on a case by case basis) during the actual competition.  However, we caution this, as a live performance will convey better than Zoom.

  • Q.  Is there anything that would make me ineligible to enter the competition?  A.  Yes, (a) if you are signed by any major label or direct subsidiary; (b) if you have won or placed in the Top Ten as a finalist in any nationally or internationally televised vocal competition including but not limited to The Voice, American Idol, America's Got Talent, or any subsidiary thereof; (c) if your participation would create impropriety or the appearance of impropriety; (d) any person associated in the development, production, distribution or other exploitation of The Music Room or any variation thereof; (e) any sponsor of the contest or its advertising agencies; or (f) any person or entity supplying goods, services or prizes to the competition.  In addition, The Music Room' reserves the right to render ineligible any person that it determines, at its sole discretion; anyone sufficiently connected with the production, administration, judging, or distribution of the competition such that his or her participation in the competition could create the appearance of impropriety.  The foregoing eligibility requirements may be amended, revised or changed at any time and in any fashion at The Music Room's sole discretion.

  • Q.  What are the judges looking for in my performance?  How am I judged?  A.

    • Vocal Technique – Tone quality, breathing, intonation, diction, articulation

    • Song Choices – Regardless of any surprises that the The Music Room  allows into the competition, the song you choose is critically important

    • Anything else the judges deem necessary and recognize as a tool or asset for a contestant to be able to compete in the music business
