By Michael Friedman
Bassist and vocalist in The Band, Rick quit school at 14 to pursue music full time. When he was 17 he joined Ronnie Hawkins as a rhythm guitarist. He later switched to bass guitar and toured with The Hawks on the Bob Dylan World Tour 1966. He was a founding member of The Band and he co-wrote the song “This Wheels on Fire” with Bob Dylan. Sadly, Rick died at the young age of 56 in 1999. He was a soulful singer and a warm and friendly guy.
